Terms of Service

Last updated 3 September 2026

These terms apply to the use of the Group Awesome service ("the service"). By using the service you agree to follow them.

1. The service

Group Awesome is a place to run hobby groups. With an account you can create groups or join them, publish events, and say whether you are coming to someone else's. Every account arrives owning one private personal group of its own.

The service is provided free of charge for non-commercial hobby groups. Paid features may be added later; if that happens, you will be told what they cost before you are asked to pay for anything, and the core of the service stays free for non-commercial groups.

2. Your account

  • The service is used by registering an account.
  • You are responsible for your credentials and for everything that happens on your account.
  • You agree to give accurate details when you register and to keep them up to date.
  • You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
  • You can delete your own account at any time from your account settings.
  • Group Awesome may close an account that breaks these terms or misuses the service.

3. Groups

  • Anyone with an account can create a group. Whoever creates it owns it and decides whether it is public — listed and readable by anyone — or private.
  • Group owners and admins decide who joins, either by inviting people or by approving requests to join.
  • Anything published in a public group — its name, description, image, location, category and its events — is readable by anyone on the internet, search engines included. Do not put anything in a public group that you would not publish on a web page.
  • Group Awesome is not a member or an organizer of any group, and is not a party to whatever the members of a group arrange between themselves.

4. Events

  • Whoever creates an event is its organizer. The organizer is responsible for the event going ahead, for the accuracy of its details, and for what happens at it.
  • Event details — time, place, capacity — must be given truthfully, and the organizer should update or cancel an event when the plan changes.
  • An RSVP is a message to the organizer. It is not a contract with Group Awesome, and it is not a ticket.
  • Group Awesome does not check events, organizers or venues, and handles no payments between members.

5. Content and images

  • You are responsible for the content you put into the service — images, text and any other material — being lawful and not infringing anyone else's rights.
  • You must hold the rights to every image you upload, including a group's image.
  • By uploading an image you grant Group Awesome a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right to store, process and display it in the course of running the service, including thumbnails and other derived versions.
  • Group Awesome keeps an image for as long as the group or event it belongs to exists, and deletes it within a reasonable time after that is removed.

6. Conduct

The following are forbidden in group descriptions, event details, invitations, join requests, RSVP notes and anywhere else in the service:

  • offensive, threatening, hateful or discriminatory language
  • spam, advertising or other harassment
  • asking for or passing on other people's personal data without need
  • scams, fraud or any other unlawful activity
  • interfering with the service technically — automated scraping, for instance, or probing for security holes without permission

7. Fair use and enforcement

Group Awesome aims to keep the service safe and working. Group Awesome may remove content, limit what an account can do, or close an account if a user breaks these terms, or where it is necessary for the safety of the service or to comply with the law.

8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

  • The service is provided "as is". Group Awesome does not guarantee that it will run uninterrupted or free of errors.
  • Group Awesome is not responsible for what users arrange between themselves, for events, for money changing hands between members, or for the acts of third parties.
  • Group Awesome is not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
  • Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

9. Changes to these terms

Group Awesome may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the service. By continuing to use the service after a change, you accept the updated terms.

10. Applicable law and disputes

Group Awesome is operated from the European Union and its data is held there, so the service is subject to EU law, including the General Data Protection Regulation.

These terms do not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country in which you are habitually resident, and you may always bring a claim before the courts of that country. Disagreements are, in the first instance, to be settled by discussion.
